Handmade dark-ground Indian rug woven by The Kaleen Company in Bhadohi
The Kaleen Company · Handmade Since 1970

Half a century of India, woven by hand.

From the looms of Bhadohi to the ghats of Varanasi, The Kaleen Company has spent more than fifty years turning wool, silk and imagination into handmade rugs and carpets made to last generations.

About the house
Since 1970

The Kaleen Company has the expertise, experience and infrastructure to meet every demand the carpet industry can pose — with a rare specialisation in custom-size rugs and more than thirty looms ready to deliver in any design, quality, material and size.

Our boutique studio finds its origins amidst rich design landscapes and ceaseless sand dunes, colourful turbans and faded frescoes — in the historic weaving cities of Bhadohi and Varanasi, India.

What began as a single workshop is today a house trusted to weave dreams into floors — handmade kaleens, rugs and carpets carrying culture and artistry in every knot.

Our roots

Woven where weaving was born.

Bhadohi is the carpet capital of India — a town where the rhythm of the loom has set the pace of daily life for centuries. It is here that our workshop and warehouse still stand, hands passing craft from one generation to the next.

A short journey away, Varanasi lends its ancient sense of colour and pattern. Our rugs carry both places in their weave: the discipline of the loom, the poetry of the land.

A living legacy

From a single loom to a lasting house.

The house is founded in Bhadohi, weaving rugs the way the region always has — slowly, by hand, with quality above all.

1990s

The studio grows

The boutique studio expands its language of design — Indo-Tibetan, hand-knotted, kilim and hand-loom traditions under one roof.

2010s

Built for bespoke

More than thirty looms and a full warehouse make true custom work possible — any size, any material, delivered on time.

Today

Your rug, our craft

From our Mumbai office to your home anywhere, we weave commissioned rugs that begin as an idea and end as an heirloom.

Our promise

Four things we never compromise.

i.

Design

Choose from our catalogue or bring your own — every pattern is drawn and mapped before a single knot is tied.

ii.

Quality

Knot density, wash and finish are inspected by hand at every stage, the way they have been for five decades.

iii.

Material

Hand-spun wool, lustrous silk and natural fibres, dyed to the exact shade your space asks for.

iv.

Size

Custom sizing is our speciality — from a bedside runner to a room that never fit a standard rug.

Made responsibly. Beauty should never come at the cost of ethics. The Kaleen Company stands firmly against child labour, and every rug is crafted by skilled artisans working under fair conditions.
