Our Responsibility

Handmade rug by The Kaleen Company
The Kaleen Company · Ethics

Beauty, made responsibly.

A rug should be something to be proud of — in how it looks, and in how it is made.

Our commitments

Craft with a conscience.

For over fifty years, The Kaleen Company has hand-woven rugs in Bhadohi and Varanasi. Craft this old only endures when it is practised fairly — here is how we work.

No child labour

The Kaleen Company stands firmly against child labour. Every rug is made by skilled adult artisans, in line with international ethical-manufacturing standards.

Fair artisan conditions

Our weavers work in safe, fair conditions for honest wages. Rug-making is a livelihood handed down through generations, and we protect it.

Responsible materials

We weave with natural fibres — hand-spun wool, silk and other natural yarns — and hand-dye with care, for rugs that last decades, not seasons.

Made to last

The most sustainable rug is one that endures. Every piece is inspected by hand so it can be lived on for a generation or more.
